Sukut Construction Partners With Foster Love to Support Children in Foster Care

Through employee volunteer activities and an upcoming sibling reunion event, Sukut is supporting Foster Love's mission to improve the lives of children in foster care.
For thousands of children across the United States, entering foster care means leaving behind more than a familiar home. Many are separated from siblings, change schools, and move between placements, often with only a few personal belongings packed in a trash bag.
According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approximately 332,000 children were in foster care nationwide as of September 30, 2025, with about 175,000 entering the system during that fiscal year. That means nearly 480 children entered foster care each day, on average. Behind these numbers are children and teenagers who need stability, a sense of belonging, and reassurance that they have not been forgotten.
Foster youth and their families are frequently overlooked. Children can face serious challenges, including PTSD, homelessness, and gaps in education, while limited resources make support harder to access. Ensuring they receive the help they need is essential to giving them the stability, care, and opportunities every child deserves.
That is where organizations like Foster Love come in.
Founded in 2008, Foster Love is a California-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of children and young adults in foster care. What began as founder Danny Mendoza's effort to help his young cousin, who was living in a car, has grown into a nationwide organization that has supported more than one million children through partnerships with foster care agencies, businesses, and volunteers.
Its programs address needs that often go beyond what the foster care system can provide, from essential belongings and educational resources to opportunities for siblings living in separate foster homes to spend time together.
This year, Sukut Construction joined those efforts for the first time, bringing employees together to support two of Foster Love's programs.
A Personal Touch for Children in Foster Care
In September, Sukut employees volunteered to decorate duffle bags for children in foster care. Employees personalized the bags with colorful designs, artwork, and encouraging messages before delivering them to Colette's Children's Home in Huntington Beach, California, for distribution to children in need.
The activity supports Foster Love's Sweet Cases program, which provides children with duffle bags instead of trash bags when moving between homes.
For a child facing an unfamiliar environment, having a bag of their own can offer a small measure of comfort and dignity. By adding personal designs and messages, Sukut employees hoped to give each child something special, made just for them.
Reuniting Siblings for a Day at Disneyland
For young children separated from their siblings when entering foster care, being apart means missing everyday moments together, on top of losing so much of what was familiar in their lives. Foster Love’s Disney Days brings siblings together for a full day at Disneyland, giving them a chance to reunite with their brothers and sisters, have fun, and simply be kids together.
This November, Sukut will help bring more joy into these children’s lives by funding part of the experience and having two employees volunteer to accompany them at the park. Following September’s duffle bag activity, the Sukut team looks forward to supporting Foster Love in another personal way: helping brothers and sisters spend a day side by side.
How You Can Help
Since its founding, Foster Love has worked with communities and businesses nationwide to provide children in foster care with resources, support, and opportunities they might otherwise miss.
Beyond Sweet Cases and sibling reunification events, Foster Love offers educational initiatives, shopping sprees, and other activities that help children and teens adjust to foster care and prepare for life beyond the system.
Individuals and businesses can contribute in many ways. Donations fund essential supplies and programs, while volunteer activities and corporate partnerships allow groups to support children in care directly.
