John Peña Vice President, Public Works

As vice president of public works at Sukut Construction, John provides strategic leadership across all phases of project planning and execution within the public sector. He oversees teams of project managers and engineers, develops internal talent, and identifies new opportunities to grow Sukut’s footprint in the public works market.

John joined Sukut in 2011 as an intern while completing his degree and officially began his career as a project engineer after graduation. In 2015, he was promoted to project manager, where he led a range of large-scale heavy civil projects for public agencies across California. With over 15 years of industry experience, John brings a deep understanding of project delivery, team leadership, and client collaboration to his role.

John holds a Master of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Management from California State University, Long Beach.

Outside of work, John enjoys spending time with his wife, Julia, and their three sons. He is passionate about sports, travel, and discovering great food.
