Sukut Joins Hi-Desert Water District in Groundbreaking for Phase II Sewer Expansion in Yucca Valley

August 11, 2025

On August 4th, the Hi-Desert Water District (HDWD), Sukut Construction (Sukut), and community leaders officially broke ground on the Phase II Sewer Project in Yucca Valley, CA. The $103 million initiative will expand the town’s wastewater collection system and phase out septic systems to meet state regulatory requirements.

Sukut’s CEO and Chairman of the Board, Mike Crawford, shared during the ceremony:

“We’re excited to be back out here. With this team, we had a lot of success in finishing Phase One, and we promise you the same success in Phase Two.”

The groundbreaking, covered by Z1077FM Radio and the Hi-Desert Star provided residents with project details and timelines.

As the design-build entity, Sukut partnered with West Coast Civil to develop the conceptual design and scope for Stage I design-build services. The work will include gravity-fed pipelines, manholes, laterals, cleanouts, and potentially small lift stations and force mains, along with traffic control and pavement restoration. The State Water Resources Control Board provided the grant, covering the project's costs.

Construction will start this summer in the Country Club neighborhood and move through Storey Park and Sky Harbor. Phase II will install 32.7 miles of pipe (172,814 linear feet) and 2,315 laterals, connecting over 2,000 homes to the Phase I system completed by Sukut, which included a water reclamation facility, three sewer lift stations, and 78 miles of pipelines.

This work will safeguard Yucca Valley’s drinking water and environmental health for decades. Sukut is proud to continue its partnership with HDWD in delivering reliable, long-term infrastructure for the community.
