Bouldin Island Levee Improvement Project
Client:
Reclamation District No. 756
Location:
Bouldin Island, CA
Description of Project:
This project reconstructed approximately five miles of the Bouldin Island Levee, bordering the Mokelumne River in the California Delta. These improvements aimed to increase the height of the levee to accommodate higher water levels in the delta. This project involved stripping 55 acres of the existing farmland, excavating, and stockpiling 200,000 cubic yards of peat material. On-site borrow sites were utilized to excavate and haul 510,000 cubic yards of fill material to rebuild five miles of existing levee along the Mokelumne River. Once the levee was rebuilt to the proposed design grades, a 23,000-ton aggregate base road was installed along the crest, and 23,000 tons of rip rap were installed along the waterside to armor the newly built levee. The project also included improving siphon pipe systems that deliver water to the surrounding farmland.
