Michael Bobeczko Awarded HBC Case Bradford Award

SUKUT CONSTRUCTION’S AWARD-WINNING TRACK RECORD CONTINUES

The Earthmover’s Director of Marketing Recognized with Industry Award

Santa Ana, CA - October 24, 2006 – Sukut Construction announced, Michael Bobeczko (Bo-Betch-Ko), has won the 2006 Case Bradford Award. The Home Builders Council (HBC) – the educational arm of the Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC) – established this prestigious award in 1962 in memory of its namesake. Each year, it honors an industry leader who is devoted to the service of HBC and the building industry as a whole. Bobeczko, Sukut’s Director of Marketing since 1998, accepted the award before an industry crowd of his peers at HBC’s 54th Annual Inaugural Ball.

“Michael Bobeczko shows us the importance of exchanging information to better the building industry throughout California,” said Elsa Trujillo of Southern California Gas Company, a Sempra Energy utility, as she presented Bobeczko with the award. “He is someone who embodies dedication with consistent and outstanding service over the years through leadership, volunteerism and professional achievements.”

When Bobeczko started at Sukut, he knew no one and nothing about the company’s clients or the industry. “HBC gave me access to industry leaders and, within a few short years, we knew each other on a first-name basis,” he explained. Since then, Bobeczko has invested countless evenings and weekends participating in and volunteering for events throughout the industry.

He emphasized that working for someone like Michael Crawford, President of Sukut, has afforded him the opportunity to make such a significant investment of time. “He (Crawford) recognizes that a great reputation in the industry is built on great relationships – with clients, vendors, sub-contractors, and everyone we work with. The result is that Sukut has grown and the industry recognizes it. Sukut is an integral part of the communications process in the building industry,” added Bobeczko.

Crawford says Sukut encourages employees to invest in the industry and its people noting that, “our size is our strength and our growth is a testimony that we get repeat business from satisfied customers.” He says that Bobeczko has become a key information source that many in the industry know because of his contacts with groups such as HBC. “Its knowledge like his – and the industry insights and expertise of so many of our staff – that makes Sukut a leader in the industry,” said Crawford.

From a marketing standpoint, Bobeczko has worked hard to reposition Sukut’s brand from a small, Southern California company to California’s #1 earthmover and landfill contractor. “We now compete with the biggest and best,” adds Crawford.

Bobeczko joined Sukut 8 years ago. He focuses on building strong relationships and marketing strategies to create repeat business with Sukut’s network of more than 100 high-growth customers. He is internationally recognized as a leader in strategic marketing and engineering management with more than 20 years experience. Under his direction, Sukut is consistently featured as a cover story in magazines, newspapers and on national TV programs, including major networks and the History Channel. His efforts have garnered more than 30 major awards for Sukut, including “Contractor of the Year” and “Best Place to Work.”

Bobeczko holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. He’s completed the Executive Marketing Program at Stanford University as well as post-graduate Business and Engineering Programs at MIT, UCLA, and UC Berkeley. He served on the Board of Directors for HBC from 1999 to 2003, during which time he was awarded Volunteer of the Year, and chaired the Builder Scholarship Auction. He is an active member of all BIA chapters in Southern California and has served on various committees for Urban Land Institute and Southern California Contractors Association. He currently serves on the Trade Contractors Council for Shea Homes.

The Home Builders Council (HBC) is a professional organization created on behalf of the building industry as the educational arm of the Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC). Its primary purpose is to provide student scholarships and financial support through grants and other donations to advance homebuilding educational programs at local high schools, community colleges and universities – including University of California Irvine and Katella and Western High Schools. Professionals who belong to a BIA member company are eligible to join HBC as an individual. Many join to give back to the industry and for the opportunities for personal growth, networking, and camaraderie. In 2005 alone, HBC funded more than $ 56,000 in scholarships and grants to promising students actively employed within the industry and those seeking careers related to homebuilding.
