Sukut Construction Honored for Strong Safety Record
SANTA ANA, Calif.-August 13, 2009--Sukut Construction Inc. recently was honored by the Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA) for its superior safety record in a profession where heavy equipment mechanics, oilers and welders are routinely exposed to high hazard work conditions.
The employee-owned mass excavation company received the SCCA's Contractor's Excellence in Accident Prevention Award for 2008 at the association's annual safety banquet earlier this year. The honor is based on Sukut logging significantly fewer accidents and lost workdays-sixteen percent lower than the industry average. According to 2008 statistics gathered by Cal/OSHA. Sukut employees experienced fewer accidents requiring more than first aid, and fewer lost workdays,
"Our goal at Sukut is to let everyone go home to their families and friends at the end of the day without suffering an injury," said Sukut Safety and Compliance Director H.E "Rick" McCourt.
At the same banquet, Sukut Equipment, part of the Sukut family of companies, was lauded with the coveted Albert Atwood Safety Achievement Award, a competitive honor based on nominations and submissions from SCCA contractors. It is presented to an individual crew, division or company for extraordinary achievements in safety. Sukut Equipment was honored for its outstanding safety injury record of nearly two years without a recordable incident. It also was selected based on the leadership of the management team of President Mike Ortiz, Equipment Superintendent Sam Valenzuela and Safety Superintendent John Casperson.
Sukut works diligently to maintain safety at its jobsites, where highly specialized skills are employed for such tasks as heavy equipment repairs made by mechanics, large-scale concrete pours for public works projects and mass grading by heavy equipment operators.
Employees in every department created safety improvements company-wide after identifying the top 10 or 12 most dangerous things workers face on a recurring basis, said McCourt.
Sukut, which turned 40 this year, is headquartered in Santa Ana, California, with offices in Oceanside, Los Angeles, and Riverside, California. More information is available on their website at www.SUKUT.com
