Sukut Construction, Inc. has broken ground on a $5.9 million project to re-close the Jamestown Landfill
SANTA ANA, CA 08/06/08 - Sukut Construction, Inc. has broken ground on a $5.9 million project to re-close the Jamestown Landfill.
The contract award by the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors reflects Sukut's successful track record as the nation's top landfill contractor. This closure project is critical for Tuolumne County to comply with California requirements by the end of this year. Sukut, which has successfully completed more than 50 major landfill projects, including the closure of six major sites, has installed more than 40 million square feet of landfill liner, and has the proven expertise to get the job done.
"Sukut has been closing landfills for more than fifteen years," said Dave Grattan, president, Sukut Construction's landfill division. "By using new technology such as GPS modeling and machine controls we are able to complete projects of this magnitude more efficiently in order to meet the critical demands of both cost and schedule."
The Jamestown closure project will require Sukut to reconfigure grades over about 18 acres of the landfill, relocate about 100,000 cubic yard's of refuse, and finally will reconstruct the liner, drainage layer and soil cover layers. The final project will also create a soil buttress on the eastern edge, and install new surface drainage features as well as new gas wells.
