SANTA ANA, Calif.- August 13, 2009--Sukut Construction Inc. recently was honored by the Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA) for its superior safety record in a profession where heavy equipment mechanics, oilers and welders are routinely exposed to high hazard work conditions.

Sukut Construction Inc., in joint venture with Flatiron West Inc. of San Marcos, has been awarded a $57 million contract by Caltrans to construct the final segment of California Route 905 in San Diego County. Work is scheduled to begin in mid-June and be completed in early 2011.

Situated in northern California a mere 1.8 mi from the Hayward Fault, the San Pablo Dam has twice been upgraded to resist the strong earthquakes that are all but guaranteed to strike the area in the future. Construction work on yet another seismic upgrade to the dam began in August, and the structure’s owner, the East Bay Municipal Utility District, is no doubt fervently hoping that the third time will prove to be the proverbial charm.
